Leaving the title open until Robyn tells me the name of the town...*

Today, I'm remembering a short vacation I took with my friends Terri and Robyn while we were living in Mexico during college. A great beach getaway to a little town whose name translates to "Land of the Wildly Hopping Rabbits." No, it doesn't make any sense, but that was part of the charm. Well, maybe that was all of the charm.

It rained literally all weekend.

We'd gotten a tiny little hotel room with one small bed that we'd take turns lying on while the odd man out worked on cracking open coconuts we'd found on the sidewalk outside the hotel. We'd drink the coconut milk more for the novelty than the taste. Nights we'd all puzzle piece ourselves into the little bed and laugh ourselves silly about our luxe accommodations till we drifted off to sleep with the sounds of cars driving through puddles down in the streets below.

On our final day, we hung out in a bright little cafe and played air hockey till we vibrated with coffee buzz and couldn't take being cooped up any longer. We walked to the beach in a cool drizzle under steel grey skies, then looked out over the rolling gray waves for a minute. Screw it, I took my clothes off and ran in. Terri watched for a minute and then asked Robyn,

"Rob, how many times do you live?"
"Just once Ter..."

Terri stripped down and swam in after me. A few minutes later, cops assembled at the shoreline and shouted at us to get the hell out of the water. We ignored them for while but then finally got out, pulled our damp clothes on and drank the best beers on earth at this rained out little beach shack 'till it was time to catch our bus back to Mexico City.

It wasn't what we'd planned, but it turned out more memorable than anything we could've imagined.

*****

This morning, just a a few unremarkable miles on a treadmill. Luke's recovering from his mosh pit practice. Thank you all truly, for the love and concern, he's doing just fine today.

Be well,

Jenny

* From Robyn, "Tuxpan. I wish I was a better swimmer. I've always lamented not being able to swim with you that day."
